Pumpkin Bread Silence Thanksgiving has once more arrived, As memories of this special feast, like specters come alive. Yet few now remain, of this once bustling home, as now in pumpkin bread silence it must refrain. For gone now are those, To whom we once in heart held so close. For I remember when…I can recall, When there was not even room enough To sit us all. Yet now the chairs are empty, And the place settings gone, As two or three gather In the pumpkin bread silence Of this sighing, crying home. Yet even still, I remain thankful in this And when prayers are offered, Mine will include those Who I dearly miss. J. Allen Wilson © 2004 Happy Thanksgiving to all at the Authors Den.

| J allen a heartfelt beauty, and how well I know this feeling for tonight I feel it especially strong as I seem to be more steeped in meories of those lost than usual. I'm allowing the spirit of lost ones to visit since there is such a pull on my spirit, but I do feel drained.Sorry, but your poem caught me in this mood.May you and yours have a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving day! | |
